About Lung Cancer

Around 2,700 people in Ireland will be diagnosed with lung cancer each year, making it one of the most common types of cancer. Its incidence is growing, especially in women, and it mostly occurs in people aged over 50.

While the risk is increased in those who smoke, people who have never smoked can also develop lung cancer.

Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer related deaths.

However, an enhanced understanding of how and why lung cancer occurs, as well as earlier detection, timely treatment, and the availability of newer more targeted treatments means outcomes are improving all the time.
